Like several other locations, the Winchester Mystery House is claimed to be the “Most Haunted Place in the world”. Not. So. Fast. A short dip into the history of Sarah Winchester and her eclectic architectural wonder reveals that a local news story which was factually deficient may be the source of the legend about Native American and other ghosts who supposedly plagued Sarah, heir to the Winchester rifle fortune. Here is a short audio clip from the podcast 15 Credibility Street featuring Sharon Hill discussing the basis of the legend and the push by the current owners to capitalize on the house as a haunted attraction. Will the upcoming movie starring Helen Mirren portray Sarah as a paranoid, haunted widow? Let’s hope not because it’s not true.
